Sonic the HedgehogNaturally, Sonic needs no introduction, but I'll write something anyway. I never really had that many video game consoles growing up, I had a Sega Saturn when I was 3-5 years old which I remember playing religiously, and I only got a PlayStation 2 much later during 2008 when I was around 11 years old if I recall. |
I had Sonic R on the Sega Saturn, and during that period of time when I had no gaming consoles, free online game websites were where I spent my time, and if I ever saw a Sonic flash game, I'd always rush to play it.
I never really considered myself "into" Sonic until I got my PS2. I got Sonic Heroes which became my favourite game and got me completely obsessed with everything Sonic. I got super into drawing Sonic characters and I'd literally spend all my time in high school drawing them.
My interest faded slightly when NiGHTS became my hyperfixation, but to this day, I still get really excited about anything with Sonic on it.
My fondest memories are of playing a pirated Sonic Adventure DX on an old laptop, as well as of playing Heroes and Unleashed on the PS2, trying to get S ranks of all of the stages. I was also really into the Riders games, especially Zero Gravity, vividly recalling trying to constantly playing and trying to beat my own records in races, trying to find the quickest way to beat every level.
Despite the criticism of the games and all the problems they have, it's a series that's just very dear to me and heavily influenced my art style early on.
